I’ve booked my flight and I’m off to London at the end of next week!! After months and months of delays, it is finally happening. I am moving to England to be with my *SO (Significant Other) and to secure employment as a Social Worker. I haven’t received official word from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) but have faith that it will work out. That application process really tested my patience!!
I am finally writing my first blog entry after thinking about doing it for so long. I wanted to create a blog so I could keep in touch with my friends and colleagues, and to also share my experiences as a Canadian Social Worker trying to navigate the UK system. I found it very challenging to find up to date information pertaining to international Social Workers wanting to work in the UK. The UK had been actively recruiting for Social Workers from abroad as recent as a few years ago, but sadly this is not the case anymore. I tried to make as many connections as possible in hopes that someone will give me positive feedback about employment, but the feedback was mixed and mainly leaning towards a pessimistic outlook. I hope that I can help others who are wanting to work in the UK as a Social Worker–and if I can help just one person, then it will be worth it!
I will be sharing my experience and knowledge with you…as well as the crazy shenanigans I get into along the way! Please bear with me as I try to figure out this whole blogging extravaganza and how best to format it so it is somewhat organized!
Welcome and I look forward to shenaniganning with you!
